âď¸ This Yearâs Journey: Wine Paris 2025
In previous years, we travelled to ProWein in DĂźsseldorf â one of the biggest wine trade shows in the world. But in 2025, we changed things up and headed to Wine Paris, the capital's premier international wine expo. With over 5,300 producers from more than 50 countries, it was a tasting experience like no other.
Held every February, Wine Paris brings the heart of the global wine industry together under one roof. Over three days, our buying team tasted more than 200 wines â starting at 9am sharp (yes, really!). While it might sound glamorous, it's serious work: sniff, swirl, taste, spit, evaluate, repeat. When youâre deciding what thousands of customers will enjoy later in the year, every sip matters.

Our goal isnât just to find "good" wine â itâs to find brilliant wine at the best possible value. Of the hundreds we taste, fewer than 1 in 10 make it back to Ireland.

Sometimes we find a great red whose white counterpart doesnât stack up. Or a beautiful wine with packaging thatâs confusing or unappealing. Weâre picky, because our customers deserve better than average.

Wine is a living product. It changes every year â influenced by the weather, the soil, the winemakerâs choices, and the world around us. In 2025, climate change, inflation, glass shortages, and rising transport costs all added layers of complexity to our sourcing. Every bottle has a backstory â and thatâs before it even gets to our shelves.
â Final Taste Test â And Then, Only Then, We Say Yes
Back home in Ireland, we request final samples of our shortlist wines. Why? Because occasionally a wine tastes different when itâs out of the show environment â and we want zero surprises. If it doesnât impress a second time, it doesnât get listed. Simple as that.
