At this stage, we hope you appreciate that we put a lot of effort into sourcing our Molloys Exclusive wines. These 100 or so wines are worth exploring. However, we know that wine can be confusing, and that you don’t always have enough time or interest into discovering that ‘ultimate wine’ or ‘perfect wine.’
That’s where Molloys Rating system can save you time, and help you find exceptional wines. From time to time, we are blown away by the quality of what we taste. Our rating system gives you the inside track on our Molloy Exclusive Wines. If you haven’t already noticed, look out for wines with high ratings like these:
Price isn’t factored into the rating. Bear in mind that certain styles/regions/categories carry a higher price tag. There’s a good selection of 90+ point wines at €15-20. It’s fair to say most of the 90 + point wines are over €20. However, when you compare this to the price of two G&Ts in your local pub, these seem like excellent value for money!
Our wine expert awards higher points for wines which are ‘best in class.’ These wines are like benchmarks, exemplifying the best that each category can offer. Points are awarded for fresh, bright flavours and/or complexity. Also, a perfect balance of fruit vs acidity/alcohol/ tannin. Finally, a long, satisfying more-ish finish will get high marks. We don’t give away marks for organic certification; it’s purely the quality of the wine against others in a similar class. It’s worth noting that wines are compared to others in a similar class. Clearly, we don’t compare red to white wines. And nor would we compare a Rioja Reserva to a Chilean Merlot. That would be like comparing apples and oranges. Join our growing band of savvy wine drinkers and treat yourself to a 90 point + wine this week. Here’s a white, a rosé, and a red wine from our French wine sale for you to give your own rating:
