🍷 Molloys Wine Ratings Explained: How to Find an Exceptional Bottle Every Time
With the launch of our NEW 2026 Molloys Exclusive Wine Collection, there's never been a better time to discover something new.
After tasting hundreds of wines at Wine Paris 2026, we've added some incredible new producers and exciting bottles from France, Italy, Spain and beyond. But with over 100 Molloys Exclusive Wines to choose from, where do you start?
That's exactly why we created the Molloys Wine Rating System.
Instead of standing in front of the wine shelf wondering which bottle to choose, our ratings help you spot the wines that genuinely stand out.
⭐ Our Rating System Explained
Our ratings are simple...
The higher the score, the more impressed we were.
🏆 95–100 Points
Outstanding
A must try.
These are truly special wines that stand above almost everything else we've tasted.
⭐ 90–94 Points
Exceptional
Significantly better than others in their class.
These are the wines we recommend again and again. Outstanding quality and often incredible value.
👍 85–89 Points
Very Good
Highly recommended.
Excellent wines that consistently overdeliver for their price.
🍷 80–84 Points
Good
Excellent everyday value.
Reliable, enjoyable wines that are easy to drink and fantastic value for money.
💰 Does Price Affect the Rating?
Absolutely not.
A €15 wine can score higher than a €40 wine.
We compare wines against others in their own category and style—not their price.
Of course, certain wine styles naturally cost more to produce. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape or Amarone will almost always cost more than a Chilean Merlot.
That's why you'll find plenty of 90+ point wines between €15 and €20, while some of the world's finest wines naturally sit above €25.
When you think about it, many of these bottles cost little more than two G&Ts in your local pub.
🧐 So What Are We Looking For?
Our wine experts aren't looking for fancy labels or famous names.
Every wine is judged on what really matters.
✅ Fresh, vibrant flavours
✅ Balance between fruit, acidity, alcohol and tannins
✅ Complexity and character
✅ Length of finish
✅ How well it represents its style
We're looking for wines that are genuinely "best in class."
That's why we don't award extra marks simply because a wine is organic, biodynamic or comes from a famous producer.
The only thing that matters is how good the wine is in the glass.
🍇 Fair Comparisons Matter
A Rioja Reserva isn't trying to be a Chilean Merlot.
A Chablis shouldn't taste like a Sauvignon Blanc.
And it wouldn't make much sense to compare a crisp rosé with a full-bodied Amarone.
Every wine is judged against others of the same style, region and category, ensuring every score is meaningful.
