One part of the planning of any Irish wedding is, of course, making arrangments for alcohol. This can involve choosing the champagne or prosecco for the reception, the wines for the tables, and finally a spirit to toast the speeches.
We continuously work with wedding coordinators, venues, and brides and grooms to be, and provide a no-fuss consultation service that takes the stress out of arranging wine for your special day. We also have one of Ireland's biggest ranges of spirit miniature which are quickly becoming the wedding favour of choice for Irish weddings. We even offer discounts on bulk purchases. Contact us at email@example.com for more information.
Quantities: allow three glasses per person, expect to get/buget for five glasses per bottle. Do the sums, and round it up to the nearest case. Generally speaking white is more popular than red. A ratio of three white to two red is typical.
Sparkling wine reception: allow one and a half glasses per head, and expect to get seven glasses per bottle.
Toast after dinner: Many people now opt for a ‘drink of choice’ rather than a champagne toast after the speeches.
While it’s your wedding, try to make sure that you choose a wine which is a crowd-pleaser. Generally speaking, anything too crisp, too tannic / grippy, too alcoholic or just too distinctive is probably not an ideal choice.
Aim for fruity white wines, with medium acidity. Red wines should be medium bodied, with smooth tannin and ample fruit.
Current popular choices for weddings include Pinot Grigio, Chilean/New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay is back in fashion. In reds, fruity Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are popular, while a smooth Rioja or Bordeaux will always impress.

White wine favourites include Pinot Grigio, unoaked Chardonnay, French Sauvignon, southern French wines (Languedoc, Oc, Gascony).

It's perfectly acceptable to choose Prosecco over Champagne! We have an award-winning Champagne (Jean Comyn), as well as several fantastic Prosecco to choose from. While seven glasses per bottle is an average pour for sparkling wine, you could squeeze eight glasses, depending on the glassware being used. Six would give a generous serve!
