  • "COVERT OPERATION" MOLLOYS 85TH ANNIVERSARY BEER

    August 24, 2018

YellowBelly Beer worked with Richard Molloy to create this anniversary ale named Covert Operation, a 5% ABV pale ale. The mission was to create a juicy, easy-drinking Pale Ale and Head Brewer Declan Nixon rose to the challenge. The malt bill is kept light and clean, giving a solid base for the Mosaic and Azacca hops to shine. Aroma’s of pineapple, blood orange and mango leap out of the glass, backed up by flavours of lemon peel, grapefruit and even more pineapple. The finish is low on bitterness and super clean, enhancing the beers sessionability.

The label features YellowBelly, the 3 generations of the Molloy family and the Crafty Fox who will lead them on a Covert Operation to bring superior craft beer to the masses.

It was hard keeping this 'Covert Operation' under wraps, but now that it’s cover has been blown, you can find it in all 7 Molloys Liquor Stores around Dublin. And it is available to buy online at www.molloys.ie.

  • HOW TO GET THE LATEST LIMITED CRAFT BEERS & AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT

    May 5, 2017

    No automatic alt text available.

The Reason Why it's Hard to Get

Getting your hands on limited and seasonal craft beers can be difficult. They are normally made in small batches and only certain establishments will stock them. Along with that they only receive small quantities, so once the craft beer is gone, they won’t be able to reorder it.

That’s one of the beautiful aspects of craft beer; that you may only get to try a certain brew once. In turn making you savour every gulp and really think about and analyse what you are tasting. Consciously or subconsciously you normally end up rating the beer, then comparing other beers to it, in its respective category. That’s one of the reasons why we held The Molloys Craft Beer Awards, which you can read about here. Sometimes it can be difficult to compare a beer, even if it is in the same category, there can be a lot of variation in terms of flavour, aroma and finish. But we still try and compare nonetheless.

    Recent Releases

One of the reasons why, such sites as RateBeer and BeerAdvocate have done so well, people love to compare things! When limited edition craft beers come out, it creates great anticipation and excitement. Recently Rascals released their Strawberry Vanilla Shake IPA, the scramble to get it was phenomenal, and it flew off the shelves all over Ireland. The same with Galway Bay 200 Fathoms Imperial Stout.

  • Top 6 Stouts to Try Before You Die

    April 11, 2017

    Image result for stout images

Stouts are becoming more and more popular on the craft beer scene. It seems like most craft beer breweries are trying their hand at brewing some type of stout variation. There are a number of different styles of stout, and this is something that will continue to grow over time, as craft breweries experiment and continue to evolve the stout category.

We stock one of the best ranges of stouts in Ireland. In our annual Molloys Craft Beer Awards, Stouts where one of the most popular categories, and it was a nightmare to make a shortlist of the top 6, as so many other quality stouts missed out. That just shows the quality of stouts being brewed at the moment, there is so much complexity and so much going on within each different stout.

Stouts are generally dark in colour, with very distinct flavours of roasted malts, caramel, coffee and chocolate. These are some flavours that can be expected in most stouts, but they all vary and have their own different characteristics, making each one quite unique. Stouts are normally creamy with very little sweetness and a rather enjoyable bitterness.

Here are the top 6 Craft Stouts you must try. Read about the Molloys Craft Beer Awards Here.

    Galway Bay Buried at Sea:

  • Goodbye Oktoberfest

    October 13, 2016

Well, it’s the start of October, and that means the curtains have come down on another fantastic Oktoberfest in Munich. The beer festival extravaganza takes place over a number of weeks in a 42 Hectare park called Theresienwiese. It is estimated that over 6 million people flock to the festival each year. This year the festival started on the 17th of September and finished on the 3rd of October.

Oktoberfest has been in existence in some shape or form since 1810. When King Ludwig 1, married Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on the 12th of October 1810; the citizens of Munich were invited to attend the Royal celebrations. The festival is steeped in history and it should be on every beer or even culture lover’s bucket list.

The wonderful beer served at Oktoberfest must be brewed within the city limits of Munich and they must adhere to the Reinheitsgebot, which are a strict set of regulations surrounding the amount of ingredients which can be used to brew German beer. These regulations have led to some mind numbingly delicious beers.

Although Oktoberfest has drawn to a close and not everyone had the pleasure to attend the actual festival in Munich, you can still buy these premium Oktoberfest beers in your local Molloy’s Off License or online.

Spatenbräu: Lovely amber in colour, with aromas of biscuit, spice and grassy hops. Excellent flavours of roasted biscuit malts with some delightful spicy hops.

Erdinger Oktoberfest: Lovely hazy golden colour, with some nice wheat and clove aromas. Some nice wheat, bread and toffee flavours.
