10 delicious ways to drink Prosecco!

 

 

Why not ‘pimp’ your Prosecco to make something truly delicious for you and your friends!   Here’s some ideas for delicious Prosecco cocktails and other Prosecco drinks from Molloys.

We suggest using Prosecco Frizzante, which is less expensive than Spumante. How do you tell the difference between Frizzante & Spumante?  Spumante has more fizz, and has a wire muzzle.  Save Spumante for another special occasion, or when you need the fizz to last.

Extra Dry can be easier to drink too.  What does Extra Dry mean?  It actually means that it is off-dry; in other words, very slightly sweet!

Before you start, chill your Prosecco, and pop your glasses into the fridge too.

  1. Bellini –first served in Harry’s Bar in Venice. Make your own at home for a fraction of the price! Use 1 very ripe peach per glass of Prosecco. Blend the peach using a blender until totally smooth.   Spoon half into the chilled flute, and slowly top up with Prosecco, stirring as you pour. You should ideally have one third peach purée to two thirds Prosecco.
  2. Passionflower Prosecco: blend passionfruit and peach using a hand blender, and add a tablespoon of each to a glass. Add a tablespoon of grapefruit juice, and then top up with Prosecco.
  3. Elderflower & lime: use 10-15ml of elderflower cordial and a squeeze of lime juice to a glass, and top up with Prosecco.
  4. Aperol Spritzer: is a classic served around Treviso and Venice. Make your own by adding 2 parts of Aperol (an herbal orange flavoured apéritif) to 3 parts Prosecco and 1 part fizzy water, and serve in a very large wine glass over ice, with a slice of orange.
  5. Berry Prosecco: add a perfectly ripe Irish strawberry to the glass. On a warm day, try freezing individual strawberries, raspberries, blackberries or blueberries, and add them to the glass.
  6. Flower Power Prosecco: you can buy edible hibiscus flowers in syrup, and place one at the bottom of the glass, with a teaspoon of its syrup. This is stunning, and would be perfect for wedding receptions!

Or you can create an Irish version by adding a pretty fuchsia flower on the rim of the glass. Give the fuchsia flowers a good wash.  Make a slight angled incision through the base of the flower and perch it on the rim of the glass.

  1. Sbagliato – gently mix 4 parts Prosecco, 1 part Martini Bianco, and 1 part Campari. Serve with a twist of orange zest.
  2. Prosecco pomander: Combine the juice of 1 clementine with 1 part Cointreau and 3 parts Prosecco in a flute.  Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and a slice of clementine studded with cloves.
  3. Elderflower: 1 part each of elderflower cordial and gin in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until well combined then strain into a tall glass. Top with Prosecco and serve with a couple of mint leaves.
  4. Sorrento Sparkle: Add 30ml cold limoncello into a champagne flute and top up with ice-cold Prosecco. Drape a twist of lemon zest on the rim of the glass, for effect.
